In 1962, Mikes father took him to the neighborhood golf course in Lansing, Michigan to learn the game of golf. He became friends with Art Prior who owned the 18 hole course and range named Par-Mor. Art was to become Mikes mentor in golf and first employer that year. Forty-Two years later, Mike Husby is a major force in the golf business and has become one of the top golf managers in the United States.

In 1976 it was unique for golf professionals to manage the entire golf facility at the golf courses they worked. That year Mike made the transition with ease from Golf Professional to General Manager at the Sugar Springs Country Club Gladwin, Michigan. There the Property Owners Association hired him to take over their golf course, riding stables, beach clubs, tennis courts and restaurant operations.
